Trading playbook template you will actually use

A short trading playbook template: setup definition, invalidation, risk, checklist — built so discretionary traders run it before every entry.

Why most playbooks die in Notion

They are essays. In a live session you need a one-screen definition: when it’s valid, when it’s invalid, how you size, and what you forbid.

If you can’t score a chart against the playbook in under two minutes, the playbook is too long.

Copy-paste template (one setup = one page)

Name: (short, unique tag you’ll use in the journal)

Market / session: (e.g. liquid FX London, index futures RTH)

Context required: (trend / range / catalyst — pick one primary)

Trigger: (exact condition — candle, level reclaim, break-retest, etc.)

Invalidation: (price or condition that kills the idea)

Targets: (partial / runner rules, or “scale at 1R / 2R”)

Risk: (% and max R for this setup)

Forbidden: (news window, countertrend, first 5 minutes, etc.)

Checklist IDs: (link to Pre-flight items)

Rules for keeping it honest

One primary setup per trade. If you need three tags, you don’t have a setup.

Retire setups with negative expectancy after a fair sample — don’t “feel” them back to life.

Update the playbook only in weekly review, not mid-session after a loss.

Store playbooks in the app, attach them in Pre-flight and Analyst context, and journal with the same setup tag so Stats can rank expectancy by playbook pattern.
